BrainTrain
Offers Thank You Gift To Brain-Injured Veterans
Home version of
Captain's Log to be given away free to vets
BrainTrain is asking for your support in helping head-injured
veterans. Military doctors are saying that brain damage has
emerged as the “signature wound”
of the Iraq war.*
While body armor
protects military personnel from explosions and vehicle
accidents that soldiers in previous wars could never have
survived, the brain remains quite vulnerable. To compound the
problem, it’s often difficult for doctors to differentiate
between the effects of a head injury, psychological stress and
depression. This can mean that many brain injuries suffered
during active military duty may inadvertently be left untreated.
Since 1989, most
of BrainTrain’s mission has involved developing ways of helping
brain-injured individuals. The company’s flagship product, the
Captain’s Log cognitive training software, is a worldwide
best-seller, used by professional therapists, hospitals, and
schools in all 50 states and in numerous foreign countries.
Developed by Dr. Joseph Sandford, a clinical psychologist and
company president, as a tool to serve his own clients, Captain’s
Log has now helped many more individuals than he could ever
possibly see personally.
Seeing the
heart-wrenching daily news, BrainTrain has answered the call to
make this resource available to benefit our veterans. The
company is offering the home version of the Captain’s Log
cognitive training software system free to personnel who have
suffered brain injuries in the line of duty while serving their
country in Iraq or Afghanistan.
The Captain’s Log
system provides a comprehensive set of mental workouts -
thousands of different “games” to improve memory, attention,
mental processing speed, impulse control, and problem solving.
Because it is game-like, the software makes it fun and
interesting for people to do the work needed to restore their
mental functioning.
If you know of
brain-injured veterans who would benefit from doing daily
brain-building exercises on their PCs, please make them or their families
aware of this offer. Their healthcare professional will need
to complete the
Free Captain’s Log @ Home Order Form
and fax it back to BrainTrain. The healthcare professional does
not need to provide any identifying information to BrainTrain
about the veteran using the software.
Neither the
veteran, the veteran’s family, nor the healthcare professional
has any obligation to BrainTrain, and there is no need to send
anything back to the company upon completion of the training. If
the need arises, BrainTrain will provide the name of an
experienced professional who has very kindly volunteered her
services free of charge to help set up a training protocol for
the software user.
