The Attention Skills:
Developmental module begins with the very simple exercises you
need for adults and children with head injuries or
developmental disabilities. Following the Sohlberg & Mateer
model, these eight programs are carefully crafted to target
various types of attention – focused, sustained, selective,
and alternating. The tasks become increasingly challenging
as you progress. You can easily customize the exercises to
build impulse control, processing speed, and reasoning
skills.
Here are some quick samples
of two of the exercises. To explore the programs thoroughly,
order a fully-functional trial CD from the
BrainTrain Mall.
Target Practice provides drill and practice on
quick visual scanning and selective attention.
On the level illustrated here, your job is to click the mouse
only when you see a playing card with diamonds.
Click the mouse when the newest image on
screen matches the color of the border. The
border color will change, requiring divided
attention and visual scanning. On the higher
levels of this program, you must respond
very quickly to the constantly changing
stimuli.
