workshops last three days; Captain’s Log workshops last two
days. Due to the limited space available in each workshop,
we respectfully request that you plan to attend the entire

note: You will need a car to get from the Richmond airport
to the learning center and to get around in Richmond. Cabs
are very expensive, and there is no public transportation in

Workshop Objectives
Mastering
Captain’s Log, Hands On
A computer
with the Captain’s Log software will be provided for your
use at the workshop. It is not necessary to bring your own
computer or software.
Who
should attend:
Some
previous familiarity with the Captain’s Log system is
recommended. Individuals unfamiliar with the software should
acquire a trial version to explore prior to attending.
Workshop
Objectives:
Computerized cognitive training has been found in research
to improve working memory, attention, self-control, and
mental processing speed. These benefits have been shown to
generalize to academic and real life success.
In this
interactive experiential hands-on workshop, discover how to
make it fun and interesting for your clients or students to
improve working and short-term memory, attention,
self-control, and mental processing speed. After introducing
the basics of computerized cognitive training, Dr. Sandford
will show you step-by-step how to create and customize a
training protocol to meet the needs of each individual
client using the Captain’s Log system. You will
explore how to effectively integrate this software within
your own cognitive behavioral therapy or educational
approach. You will learn to track progress and foster
generalization. You will find out how to incorporate the
Captain’s Log Home trainer into your professional training
paradigm.

Objectives:
This
workshop will provide a hands-on overview of neurofeedback,
including its research base and the rationale for using it
to help various types of clients. Learn basic EEG
psychophysiology and terminology. With Dr. Sandford’s help,
investigate hands-on the SmartMind 2 system both as a
stand-alone neurofeedback system and as a partner working in
tandem with the Captain’s Log Brain Games.
Explore and customize the SmartMind 2 graphing system. Set
training parameters and adjust artifact settings.
Upon
completion of this workshop, participants should:

introductory workshop will present background research, test
administration procedures, scale definitions, and basic test
interpretation guidelines.
Upon
completion of this workshop, participants should:

performance tests and understand the relative strengths

Becoming

Step-by-Step Mastery

Objectives:
This
interactive workshop will cover in-depth interpretations of
a variety of IVA+Plus and IVA-AE case studies.
Prerequisite: IVA+Plus--/IVA-AE Basic Training or experience
using the IVA+Plus or IVA-AE.
Upon
completion of this workshop, participants should:

Have a
clear, in-depth understanding of how to systematically
interpret IVA+Plus and IVA-AE in both simple and complex
cases.

Know how to use the IVA+Plus and IVA-AE interpretive
flowcharts.

Be able to compare relative strengths and weaknesses in
auditory and visual functioning.

Be able
to identify differences in an individual’s attention and
response control abilities under high and low demand
conditions.

Know
how to use IVA+Plus and IVA-AE within the framework of a
comprehensive clinical evaluation.

explored how data provided by the Investigator and the
