the Presenter
Dr. Joseph Sandford is a
graduate of the College of William and Mary and
received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from NOVA
Southeastern University. He is author of the
IVA+Plus Integrated Visual and Auditory CPT, the
Captain's Log Cognitive Training System,
SoundSmart and SmartDriver. In addition to his work
authoring psychological and rehabilitation software,
he runs a full-time clinical neuropsychology
practice specializing in ADHD and brain injury in
children and adults. Thus, he is able to speak to
professionals working in these areas from the wealth
of clinical experience he has gained from using his
programs on a daily basis.

Dr. Sandford founded BrainTrain in
1989 to distribute the Captain’s Log, which was
first released in 1985 while he was working with
head-injured patients. The first release contained
21 programs on 5.25” disks for the Apple IIE. The
first version of IVA+Plus was released in 1994.
Since Dr. Sandford was a professional programmer
before becoming a psychologist, it is natural for
him to perceive the many ways that the computer can
benefit patients. When he is not seeing clients or
developing software, Dr. Sandford explores
photography and is an avid science fiction fan.
