Thursday, November 13, 2008 9 AM - 12:30 PM
12 Hours of Continuing Education Credit for Psychologists!
This
workshop explores how a new
neurofeedback system call SmartMind
that can be used as both a
stand-alone tool and in combination
with the Captain's Log: Cognitive
Training System for improving
attention, mental processing speed
and self-control. Research has shown
integrating Neurofeedback and
Cognitive Training produces a
synergistic effect that shortens the
time required for achieving
effective improvements in cognitive
functioning. It also makes the
training protocols significantly
more motivating and interesting for
the client. The various research
studies and training protocols that
have been found to be effective in
improving a client's mental
functioning and emotional state will
be reviewed in this workshop.
Participants will also receive
hands-on training with the SmartMind
equipment and training software in
order to enable them to develop the
necessary competence in using this
unique, new brain training system.
Specific topics to be covered
include:
-
Review of basic EEG
psychophysiology and rationale
for using neurofeedback
-
The meaning of EEG terminology
(amplitude, bandpass,
frequencies, definitions of
delta, theta, alpha, beta, and
SMR)
-
How to interpret different EEG
patterns and their relationship
to the reduction of symptoms for
ADD/ADHD, Major Depression,
Anxiety, Insomnia, mild head
injury and Learning Disabilities
-
Discussion of how to obtain good
EEG recordings including
impedance, artifacts, sensor
types and connections
procedures, and mono versus
bipolar recordings
-
Understanding a Fast Fourier
Transform and Power Spectrogram
analysis
-
Setting SmartMind training
parameters using graphs, filters
and audio feedback
-
Troubleshooting various common
problems regarding EEG equipment

techniques to help clients learn
how to control their EEG
-
Electrode placement, attachment
and measuring using the 10-20
International System
