The IVA-AE2 (Advanced Edition), like the IVA-2, is decision support software that helps clinicians test and evaluate visual and auditory attention and response control. The IVA-AE2 is unique in that it is the only CPT designed specifically to help clinicians identify and measure attention problems in the adult population. Normed for ages 18 – 50 (N=244, divided by gender), the IVA-AE2 can be used either alone or in conjunction with the IVA-2. The test task is quite challenging – visual and auditory numbers from 2 to 8 are presented at one-second intervals; the test taker is required to click when he sees a 3 or hears a 5. Different numbers are presented simultaneously visually and aurally. For example, an auditory 3 may be presented at the same time as a visual 6. Thus, the challenge is to keep the rule in mind and maintain attention to the task of making constant quick “go” or “no go” decisions. The verbal stimuli are spoken by a variety of different voices, and the numbers are displayed using a variety of different fonts. The clinician can opt to use the short version (10 minutes) or the extended version (20 minutes) of the test. The IVA-AE2 has excellent concurrent validity with the IVA-2.
The IVA-AE2 is especially important in helping clinicians in their comprehensive evaluation of adult clients, since rating scales are not always available for this population. Since it is quite long and challenging, the test may pick up problems in some adults who may be capable of maintaining their attention just long enough to succeed on the IVA-2, which is shorter and easier. In its extended version, the IVA-AE2 compares performance in the second half of the test with performance in the first half, and it provides you with a useful measure of how mental fatigue affects your client’s abilities. In its short version, the IVA-AE2 makes an excellent, highly time-efficient screening tool.
Dr. Sandford always administered the IVA-2 as part of his comprehensive ADHD evaluations and then later during his test battery gave the IVA-AE2. The reason was some adults get easily bored and “tune-out” when taking the IVA-2 test. Other adults with ADHD are not always identified by the IVA-2, but are by the IVA-AE2, because they cannot keep up the pace, because a “go-no go” decision is required every single second for 1,000 trials. And some more impaired adults both “tune-out” and can not keep up the pace when the work load becomes more demanding.During the IVA-AE2, the target test stimuli are inter-mixed with both auditory and visual distractors presented simultaneously during the test. The IVA-AE2 test requires test takers to click when they see a 3 or hear a 5, but not when they see any other number (1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9) shown or spoken. Plus, it enables you to compare the first 500 trials to the last 500 of the 1,000 trial test to determine if they can keep up the pace or are initially overwhelmed by distractors. The error rate of omissions and commissions for the IVA-AE2 is 10x greater for adults then for the IVA-2 which shows how much more challenging the IVA-AE2 test is compared to the IVA-2.
The use of the IVA-AE2 requires that it be administered under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional who has expertise in the use and interpretation of psychological tests. The test is not intended to be used as a stand-alone diagnostic instrument. By itself, it does not identify the presence or absence of any clinical diagnosis. The function of this psychological test is to aid examiners in making their diagnosis as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
Now you can have the freedom to administer the IVA-AE2 at an additional location without having to pay full-price for an additional station. For a one-time fee, you can add a special license to administer the IVA-AE2 from a second location. This license automatically renews at no additional charge when you renew your IVA-AE2 license. The new IVA-AE2 remote testing option allows you to administer tests from other locations online, on your iPad or even on your iPhone. Test data are uploaded back to your PC and are accessible only from your “master” IVA-AE2 license. Data are securely encrypted, and no PHI goes online.
Here’s how it works: from your IVA-AE2 license on your PC, you can generate codes to use IVA-AE2 test administrations you have purchased on your iPad or iPhone. You can then use the iPad or iPhone to administer those tests in a different location. The iPad or iPhone functions as a “clicker” so no external mouse is needed. You will, however, need headphones or external speakers. Once you have administered a test, the data will automatically upload back to your IVA-AE2 PC in the office.
If you prefer to administer your tests online, you can invest in an online remote testing license, which allows you to administer tests remotely from the Internet on any computer that supports the Chrome browser, including Macs or Surface Pros. As is the case with the iPad remote testing license, the data are automatically uploaded back to your IVA-AE2 PC once a test is completed. Test data are stored only on your actual IVA PC, not on the Internet or the remote testing device.
Remote testing should be administered only under the direct supervision of a qualified health care professional or technician. Remote Testing is not intended for use as a Home assessment to be administered without the presence of a qualified observer on site.
is a 20-minute psychological test for use by mental health and medical professionals.

features a clinical report writer that enables the examiner to incorporate his clinical data, IVA-AE2 results, clinical observations and recommendations into his one-page summary report.
is compatible for use with DSM-5®.
includes a Split Test comparison to help the clinician assess differences between the first and second halves of the test.
can easily be administered by a technician.
provides ten unique interpretive reports to help the clinician better understand his clients’ attention and response control problems.
utilizes ten different data analyses to provide in-depth information in both table and graph format to aid clinicians in making their clinical interpretation of the test scores and data.
Once a test is administered, up to nine free parent, teacher, and self ADHD rating scales can be completed online. The rating scales are auto-scored, and summary data are confidentially downloaded to your computer. There is no identifying information on any client online. To maintain confidentiality, the IVA-AE2 automatically generates a unique random ID and password. The IVA-AE2 is a great time-saver for you and helps you to better serve your clients’ needs. Note: You must administer a test to access the rating scales. Click here to view samples of the questionnaire: Sample 1 Sample 2
